Baylee. The Girl With the Arrow Tattoo

I met Baylee Thorburn through mutual friends, and I knew immediately looking through her Instagram, @baylee_anne, that I wanted her to be my first.

The first photographer to be interviewed of course. Anyone who has their logo tattooed on their body is a bad a**, and I want to know them as best I can.

So here's what I now know:

Olivia: What do you do?

Baylee: I’m a sophomore student at Columbia College in Chicago

O: Where are you from and why did you choose to come to Chicago?

B: I am from Grand Rapids, Michigan and I came to Chicago because Columbia offers a very strong photography program and I love the city, and there are a lot of opportunities. New teachers, new students - lots of connections

O: What made you fall in love with photography?

B: It’s kinda always been in my life. My mom is an amateur photographer so I always had a camera in my face, and one day I finally decided to shove it in other people’s faces.

O: Who’s your favorite photographer?

B: Annie Leibovitz. She’s a portrait designer; she does a lot of celebrity stuff.

O: What kind of photography do you do?

B: I specialize mostly in portraiture, but I’m studying to go into editorial and commercial work. I also do industrial and street photography. I’m just trying to see what to do with my life.

O: What kind of Camera do you use?

B: I use a Canon T5i mostly with a 50mm lens. It’s pretty basic but it gets the job done, and until I can afford another one…

O: What kind do you want?

B: I would love to have the 5D Mark III or IV; that’s the highest of the high?

O: Did you meet your goals for 2016?

B: I think so. I definitely branched out more, and I found out what I want to do. I discovered portraiture in 2016.

O: What are your goals for 2017?

B: I want to do more shoots with more models, more commercials, internship, meet more people, network and expand my options
